Bridal Collection

Always one to be different, Paolo Costagli wanted to design a collection of engagement rings that were colorful, youthful, and vibrant. He wanted to give clients a modern option, something that stood out from traditional solitaires and three stone diamond rings that lacked character. These are just a few of our favorite designs, among many, that we wanted to share with you. We hope
you will enjoy them as much as we do, and we invite you to come visit our showroom to personally view our unique Bridal Collection.

Florence: My Inspiration

The 11 o' clock Ring

The idea of the 11 o' clock ring, came to me one night...

In the city of Florence, 11 o' clock was a time of excitement for us, children of the "Firenze bene". Dressed up in a tailored, fit Tuxedo (or "Smoking" as we call it in Italy), this was the hour we were ready to start the night.

I can still feel the warm summer night breeze dense with cypress scents, still see the chic evening gowns, still hear the laughter at the parties around midnight, under a clear starry Tuscan night sky.

Fast forward twenty five years...

I am traveling to a far away destination in search of a gem that is unlike no other. A process I have been through many times before, one which does not always turn out successful. After countless hours of searching, I encounter this rare and unusual gem. A fancy yellow antique pear shape diamond which was spared the process of modernization, miraculously untouched since the end of 1800's. This is what I have been looking for.

Back on a Red Eye to New York City, I could not sleep a second thinking of this beauty, making a hundred sketches of the ring in my mind...too excited, and feeling so alive.

Two months later, and many hours trying to get it just right, a ring comes to life. Set at 11 o'clock... precisely for a gem lover who will appreciate it, cherish it and wear it to many summer night parties, dense of Tuscan cypress scents...

Paraiba, Paraiba, Paraiba...

For color addicted gem worshipers like us, seeing this copper and manganese bearing variety of Tourmaline was love at first sight!

Paraiba, whose name is derived from the Brazilian locality where this extremely rare gemstone was first mined, is known for an electric charge of intense glowing blue/green hues not found in any other color gem.

Before and After: Recutting

The cutting of a colored gemstone is something that is often overlooked or misinterpreted.

Overlooked, because in cutting colored gemstones there are not set parameters and precise rules as there are for diamonds. Misinterpreted, because the majority of dealers think that a heavier carat weight
commands a higher final price, which is not necessary true.

Too often we encounter, in the country of origins, cutters who still use primitive techniques which are imprisoning the true beauty of the material with wrong facet dispositions.

Our mission is to liberate the gem from the excess weight which does not allow the light to travel correctly thought it.

To do so, we implement techniques and shapes popular at the beginning of the last century, which conveys an Old World "flavor" to the gem and dramatically improves its brilliance. While at the cost of losing almost half of its original weight, it is a practice we find necessary in order to enhance naturally the optical properties of the gem.

In this particular case, we already started with a gem which did not have a "window" (the unpleasant see through effect found at the direct center/back of the stone).
We rounded the tip and completely modified the disposition of the pavilion facets, positioning an open culet almost in the center of the table.

These characteristics in vogue a century ago, are particularly appealing among true connoisseurs and serious collectors.

Bergdorf Goodman Trunkshow

Join us for our trunkshow March 30th-April 4th from 11-4pm at Bergdorf Goodman's fine jewelry salon for an introduction to our latest collection of jewels. Paolo will personally be on hand to show you his creations of fine colored gems and 18kt gold creations.

The Florentine Ring

The Florentine Ring is one of our most popular rings. Set with Peridot and Pink Sapphires in a Platinum and 18kt gold Diamond band, this ring was inspired by the Giardino dell'Iris, which is open only two weeks out of the entire year showcasing some of the most beautiful Irises in the world. Growing up in Florence, Paolo has turned his colorful memories of the countryside into a passion for jewelry.
